Yes, after 21 years of helping clients with diet and lifestyle changes, it’s time for the next life chapter. Our house sold very quickly last week and we will be moving out on 26 April. My last day of seeing clients will be Saturday 20 April.
Long weekends, fun, sun and ‘extras’
Yes, it feels like we have just escaped from the excesses of the Christmas break and now there are two long weekends in a row for those in Auckland. Holidays usually mean a break in routine. Who doesn’t want to indulge a bit and have fun while the sun is shining and work is on the back burner? That’s absolutely fine (in moderation of course) if you have formed a routine to fall back into after the break in routine. Let’s face it, the Monday after the holiday is always a great day for a fresh start.
Minimising weight gain over the holiday period
Yes, it is the time of year for work Xmas functions, the annual catching up with friends, relaxing BBQ get togethers and a whole lot of temptation. The supermarket aisles are groaning with treats and festive goodies, and food advertising is hitting your mailbox and social media every day. So how can you possibly avoid packing on a kilo or two over the next six weeks?
Consistency is key to fat loss success
No one wants to go 'on a diet’ and realistically anyone who goes on a diet is going to ‘come off a diet’ at some stage. The goal is to find a sustainable way of eating that can become a long term way of living for you.
Help it’s getting cold – what am I going to eat?
Not only is it in-between weather time for knowing what to wear, it is also the time that we start thinking about what to eat. Hot or cold? Lightweight food or comfort food? Here are some ideas for simple warm meals to help you.
Are you finding it hard to get your head back in the game?
The last few years of uncertainty, lock downs, disruptions to routine and life in general have really taken a toll on morale and motivation, it is only natural to turn to food and maybe alcohol to take the edge off when you are feeling overwhelmed and unhappy.
Should I do a detox to kickstart weight loss for 2023?
There are plenty of commercial detox programmes like green juices only for a few days, or various supplements ‘to assist your body get rid of toxins’, but do they work and do you need them?
Are you struggling to hang in there at this time of the year?🎄
It can be a really challenging time to stay on track and to make good decisions around healthy eating when there are Xmas parties, social catch ups, BBQ’s and of course the big day itself happening in December. All offer plenty of opportunity for extra treats, extra alcohol and plenty of regret!
Is it time for a re-set?
So, now that it is August and the days are lengthening again, is it time to have a mind and body re-set? Time to feel in control again and to focus on what you want to achieve over the next few months? Here’s how to make a start.
Virtual appointments are here.
There could be many reasons why you might find mixing virtual with ‘real’ appointments convenient from time to time, so now I offer the options of phone, email, zoom and in person consultations to suit your needs.
Is working from home making you fat?
First we had lockdowns and the COVID kilos and now it’s the Working From Home ‘too many opportunity’ snacks. How can you avoid weight gain when working from home?
It’s not your age or stage of life which is holding you back from fat loss
I could not count the number of women I have seen over the years who have been convinced that it is their age/stage of life which has accounted for their weight gain and seeming inability to lose that extra fat. It’s generally not the case. If you are perplexed about why you have gained weight, have a look at this checklist and answer honestly.
New Year - Fresh Start
It must be January as my inbox and Facebook feed are full of magical ways to lose weight (fast!). Do eat this, don’t eat that, try this amazing detox product, as well as promoting expensive fat busting pills and potions.
The reality is, that to lose fat and keep it off, you have to find a way that works for you and which you can make into a long-term lifestyle. While that might look slightly different for different people, there are some basic principles that apply to pretty much everyone.
Face to Face appointments are back
It’s been a long, long time, almost 1/3rd of the year has gone by since I picked up my callipers, but finally the time has come - we’re now open. Here’s what you need to know
Are you languishing?
I think it describes perfectly how many of us have been feeling for the past weeks whilst in lockdown. A feeling of being in limbo, stagnation, with no direction and no timeline to get out this situation.
Is it really possible to maintain my weight loss?
This, I’m sure, is a big thing in clients’ minds and a very valid concern too. Who hasn’t lost weight and then stacked it back on again? It’s a case of learning what to eat, how much and what the options are.
Why aren't I losing weight faster? I am being SO good!
If your weight loss is slower than expected, it is more than likely that you are doing something to slow it down, so let’s fine tune things and make it happen again.
Overweight or obese – the real risk of fatty liver disease
With the increase in clients I am seeing who have been diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, I thought it timely to expand on the topic. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is caused by the excess accumulation of fat in the liver. It can lead to liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver failure, while also sharply raising the risk of liver cancer. The leading cause of liver disease today is excess weight.
Is lockdown making you eat your feelings?
Ho hum, yes, here we are again. Definitely not ideal and sadly it didn’t have to happen, but, it has so we need to just get on with life as best we can. Here are my tips to get you through.
New Year - Fresh Start!
This year, I really want to focus on the health aspects of maintaining a healthy body composition and in forming a healthy lifestyle. This is also associated with good brain health. Nowadays, it seems that most adults know of someone with dementia, or cognitive decline and we very much hope that we will not end up in the same position. Being fit and healthy means you have choices, once your health is compromised, so are your options in life.
