New Year, Clean Slate, Fresh Start to your Nutrition Goals for 2015

The beginning of a new year is often the time when we decide to make some changes in our lives.  Usually, we want those changes to happen fast and we want instant rewards within a short period of time.

The most common New Year resolution is to lose weight, followed by the goal to take up regular exercise.  It can be tempting to try a new diet that promises fast weight loss, or buy a product that promises to detox your body, but do these kinds of things really work in the long term?

If your goal is to lose weight and keep it off and to keep your body healthy, then no special products are required.  Some people think that if they radically change what they eat, and drink some kind of magic detoxification concoction, then the weight will fall off, job done, and they can go back to what they were doing before.  Actually, no, it doesn’t work that way.

Detoxification goes on all the time in our body.  Our organs are constantly working towards eliminating substances that are harmful and provided we supply our body with the right kind of fuel, then that is all that is generally required.  Our major organs of detoxification are our skin, liver and kidneys.  Who hasn’t eaten poor quality food and ended up with bad skin?  Too much chocolate and out pop the spots!

One of the many jobs that our liver carries out is transforming harmful substances into less harmful substances which our body then excretes naturally.  To do this essential job our liver requires plenty of clean water and a diet rich in fresh leafy green vegetables.  Green tea is also useful.   Keep away from packaged, processed foods and eat fresh, real food instead.

Don’t get sucked into buying special detox products when your diet and lifestyle are the main factors in achieving a healthy body.
