If weight loss is your goal - avoid these morning habits

Have you ever thought about the fact that the choices you make in the first hour or two of your day can affect your success when it comes to weight loss? If losing weight is your goal, then avoid these common morning habits.

Not exercising
If you can, the best time of the day to exercise is first thing, before breakfast.  Why?  Well for one thing you get it over with!  No more having it hanging over you all day that you should exercise and then running out of time later in the day.

Secondly, it wakes you up and revs up your metabolism and gets you burning calories, from both carbohydrates and stored fat.

Also a lot of people find that if they do their exercise in the morning, they are more likely to stay on track with their food during the day.  Exercise + healthy eating go together.

Not being organised
This is a biggie.  Organisation and planning really are key to success in just about anything, but when it comes to fat loss and healthy living, even more so.  You need to know what you are going to eat for the day and have it on hand, so that you can carry through.

Make your lunch the night before, don’t leave it until the last minute in the morning or it is very likely not going to happen. Prepare your snacks, or at least know what you will be taking to work, and have them available.

Shop regularly so that you have the right food on hand.

Not drinking water
Overnight we have been fasting and we probably haven’t been drinking much water either.  Start your day with a big glass of water (ideally warm water with the juice of a lemon in it) to rehydrate your body and that’s one glass you can tick off as having had.

Not eating breakfast
This is usually because you want to stay under the covers until the last possible moment.

Our bodies need fuel after their overnight fast.  Carbohydrates provide brain food and energy to think and carry out tasks.  Protein provides the raw material for all the growth, maintenance and repair jobs going on constantly in your body.

If lack of time is your reason for not eating breakfast, then you seriously need to consider getting up earlier.  If you just don’t feel like eating breakfast first thing, pack your breakfast, leave for work a little earlier and eat your breakfast when you get to work.
