Fatty liver
According to a study presented to the International Liver Congress, overweight women who drink alcohol are three times more likely to develop fatty liver disease. Source: NZ Herald.
Your liver is your biggest fat burning organ, responsible for many metabolic functions. It is like a big sieve which all the blood in your body passes through at the rate of around 1.4 litres per minute.
An unhealthy lifestyle, which includes drinking too much alcohol, as well as being overweight, can lead to the 'sieve' becoming clogged with fat. When that happens, your liver may struggle to detoxify toxic substances which of course can lead to ill health.
Look after your liver and it will look after you. Eat lots of fresh veggies, drink plenty of fresh water and minimise additives and preservatives in your diet. Remember that everything you eat, drink or put on your skin ends up in your bloodstream and ultimately passes through your liver.
On the subject of alcohol, did you know that Woodstock 8% bourbon contains 221 calories and 32g of sugar!! Definitely not a great choice.
