Beware Easter Bunny!

We certainly don’t need any reminder that Easter is only a couple of weeks away when we are in the supermarket.  Every week the display of Easter goodies increases, from crème and marshmallow eggs in all flavours, to Easter bunnies, hollow eggs, egg + treat sized bar packs; not to mention the various varieties of Hot X Buns.  You name it, it is there!

Now if you have been making great progress with your nutrition and weight loss this year, think very carefully about how you are going to handle the temptation of Easter.  Are you of the mindset that “I’ll just have one hollow egg and that will be it” or maybe “I’ll just buy one packet of buns and that’s all I’ll have”.

If you can just eat one egg or a couple of hot X buns on ONE morning over Easter, that’s fine, do it and enjoy every mouthful and go for quality over quantity.  But, if you know that one chocolate egg or two hot X buns will not be enough and it will lead to your falling off the wagon and letting the sugar monster out again, don’t go there.  It is not worth your weeks or months of hard work.  Keep in mind that there are at least 500 calories in every 100g of chocolate.

As one client reminded me recently, I told her last Easter that ‘it won’t be the last Easter egg in the world and you can buy fruit buns from the supermarket all year around, the only difference is that for a couple of months they put a cross on top.”  It is true, there will always be chocolate and fruit buns around, so if you have been on a roll and feel in control of your diet, think carefully about your Easter purchases.
