Personal responsibility is responsible for personal change.

That’s quite a profound statement isn’t it, but unless you accept responsibility for where you are now and for future results, you have no power to influence your future.

Why do so many weight loss sales pitches start with ‘it’s not your fault’?  Because taking the responsibility away from you allows them to sell you their products and gimmicks.  Let’s face it, we are all in search of a fat loss quick fix. A pill or potion, a magic diet formula that will melt the fat off our bodies without having to change our habits.  But it just doesn’t work that way.

Once you take responsibility for your actions and accept that you are the only one who can ‘make it happen’ then you have choices.  The choice to give it your best shot, most of the time, or to throw in the towel and remain where you are.

With Christmas a mere 12 weeks away...

It is the perfect time to get back into eating well and exercising regularly in order to lose a few kilos before Santa climbs down the chimney.  In those 12 weeks most people can lose between 6 and 12 kilos of fat.  Doesn’t that sound appealing?  Of course it does, but to lose weight you have to make changes to your diet and lifestyle.  If you keep doing whatever you are doing now, you will get the same result.  No surprises there.

Weight loss doesn’t have to be painful and full of deprivation, but it does require knowledge, persistence, the right attitude and accountability.  I can help you with the knowledge and accountability bits, but you have to be in the right head space and be prepared to pick yourself up and persevere when things don’t go as you might have planned.

In the same vein, never feel bad or uncomfortable coming back to see me after a break if you have re-gained weight.  I greatly admire clients who have the tenacity to come back and give it another go.  It is just a problem we need to work out how to solve again.

Impulsive eating, comfort eating, boredom eating & emotional eating...

We do it all at times.  We often perceive food as our friend, or our enemy, but really food is just food, an inanimate object with no power at all.

Before you reach out for something you really don’t want to eat, or don’t need, STOP and apply the three D’s.

Delay, Distract, Do Something Else.

Make yourself wait 10 minutes before you grab that food item and in the meantime distract yourself by doing something else. You will soon find out whether it was hunger or one of the eating behaviours above that was driving you to eat.
